Sons of the Sea narrates the simple but impoverished life of a fishing community whose members live in dehumanising poverty. In weaving the tale of the fishing community, Jaladas has captured from A to Z of the life of its members. The readers come to know not only how they love or work, what their rituals are, what gears they use for fishing or what makes them happy or unhappy but also what forces undo them.

জন্ম ১৯৫৫ সালের ১২ অক্টোবর, চট্টগ্রামের উত্তর পতেঙ্গা গ্রামের জেলেপল্লিতে। লেখালেখি শুরু করেছেন মধ্যবয়সে। প্রথম উপন্যাস জলপুত্র। শুরুতেই পাঠকের কাছে সমাদৃত হয়েছেন। কারণ তিনি শুধু কাহিনি লেখেন না, সমাজকেও আঁকেন। তাঁর কয়েকটি উপন্যাস—দহনকাল, কসবি, মোহনা, রামগোলাম, প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী, আমি মৃণালিনী নই। গল্পগ্রন্েথর মধ্যে রয়েছে জলদাসীর গল্প, হরকিশোরবাবু, কোনো এক চন্দ্রাবতী। বাংলা একাডেমি পুরস্কার, আলাওল সাহিত্য পুরস্কার, প্রথম আলো বর্ষসেরা বই পুরস্কারসহ এ পর্যন্ত বেশ কয়েকটি পুরস্কার পেয়েছেন। গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পুরস্কার।
